Chess in Schools Seminar in Doha, Qatar

 

Teachers in Doha discover the benefits of Chess in Education

Qatar Chess Association organized the “Chess in Schools” seminar in cooperation with FIDE “Chess in Education Commission”.

The event was held on 3-4 of May 2023 in Doha as the first step of implementation agreement between the Ministry of Sports and Youth and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. In the project are participating 10 Qatari primary public schools.

The lecture was presented both in Arabic and English by the Chairman of FIDE Chess in Education Commission, Mr. Jerry Nash from USA, and his assistant, IM Ismail Karim newly enrolled coach of Qatar Chess Association.

The project will be implemented in schools with the start of the academic year 2023-2024 next September.

At the closing ceremony Mr. Mohammed Al-Mudhahka, President of the Qatar Chess Association, affirmed that this course is considered one of the main pillars for developing and spreading the game of chess in schools and creating a broad base of female referees capable of training, managing and arbitrating the various activities of the game, with the aim of expanding the number of students participating in individual sports on the school level, down to national school teams capable of imposing their competitive rhythm on the Arab level.

The seminar was attended by FIDE Executive Director Victor Bologan.
